Obituary:
JOHN W. NELSON
Dec. 15, 1921 – Oct. 24, 1995
John William Nelson, 73, of Albany died Tuesday morning at his home.
Mr. Nelson was born in Lorena, Kansas, the son of William and Vina (Potter) Nelson. He served in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star for his participation in the invasion of Normandy.
He married M. Louise Hitchcock on Aug. 10, 1967, in Ratone, N.M. They lived in Liberal, Kan., until 1964, when they moved to Silverton. They lived in Salem before moving to Albany in 1973. Mrs. Nelson died Aug. 1, 1987.
Mr. Nelson was a plumber and had worked at Oregon State University.
He helped start Little League baseball in Salem and served two terms as president of Hoover School Parent Teacher Association. He was a troop leader for Boy Scouts.
Surviving are daughters Pam Realph of Blair, Neb., and Marci Lynn Nelson of Salem; sons William and John M., both of Albany; brother Albert Morris of Fresno, Calif.; sister Marguerite Pribble of Balko, Okla.; and 11 grandchildren.
Brother Andy Morris and sister Della Ross died before him.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friay at Palestine Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.
