THE LATE SAMUEL SPECHT AT THE AGE OF 88 YEARS THE DEATH SUMMONS CAME
Samuel Specht was born in Somerset county Pa. January 4, 1814 and died at Mchenry March 18, 1902 aged 88 years 2 months and 14 days a family of four brothers and two sisters, he was the last one in the family to pass away.
Samuel 1st marriage was to Susan Kimmel, daughter of Peter and Rose Kimmel. His children are: Mrs. Jacob Mosser, Mrs David Fraker, Mrs. Jonas Glotfelty, Mrs. Frank Suter, Jonathan who lived about 4 years, Mrs. Bison Welch, Mrs George Fulmer, Samuel P a successful business man of Deer Park, Mrs. Adam Sells, Lincoln Edward, who died in infancy and Jacob Emery.
About 62 years ago Mr. Specht migrated from Somerset Co. Pennsylvinia to what was Allegany County and improved the the farm now owned by Samuel Mosser which was then a wilderness. In 1859 he removed to Deep Creek on the Thayer farm and it was a pleasure in his declining years to relate the adventures akin to pioneer life.
After converting a greater part of the timber into building material he disposed of the farm and purchased the McHenry farm at McHenry which has been his home the greater part of the time since. July 7, 1883 his companion departed this life he was married to Eliza Moore about one year later. His second companion lived only a few years after marriage, leaving Jacob Emery the only child. In 1894 he was married to Mary Bloyard who is still living.
He was a member of the Seven day Baptist Church for about 50 years.
He was kind and obliging; a good neighbor and always seemed to delight in doing a good to his fellow men.
The funeral was preached by Elder Samuel A. Miller of the German Baptist Breathren Church.
He was preacfully laid to rest in the old home burying ground on the farm now owned by Samuel Mosser. Thus to this earth will be known no more one who's smillimg countenance always welcomed and great all.
