Elias Morgan Sanders was born January 31, 1846 in Marion County, Georgia, son of George W. Sanders (1812-1861) and Susan Jordan Jackson (1818-1880).

The 1850 Federal Census for Marion County, Georgia shows Elias Sanders, age 6, born in Georgia; living with his father, George W. Sanders, a farmer, age 37, born in Georgia; and his mother, Susan J., age 30, born in Georgia. Also living in the household were Elias' siblings: Isaac, age 9; Mary, age 5; Frances, age 3; and Martha, age 0; all born in Georgia.

The U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865 shows that Elias Sanders fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. He served as a private in the 3rd Regiment of the Georgia Cavalry. The Georgia Confederate Pension Applications, 1879-1960) show that Elias Sanders filed an application for a confederate pension in 1889 in Hart County, Georgia. The application was based on wounds he received from being shot during the civil war.

The Kansas Marriage Index, 1854-73 shows that Elias M. Sanders, age 23, and Sarah A. Friend, age 16, were married on July 5, 1869 in Neoshoks County, Kansas.

The 1880 Federal Census for Twin Groves, Missouri (Jasper County) shows Elias Sanders, age 34, a farmer, born in Georgia; and his wife, Sarah A., age 27, born in Ohio. Living with them were three children: John Carol, age 7, born in Kansas; Rose Etta, age 4, born in Missouri; and Eva, age 2, born in Missouri.

The 1900 Federal Census for Township 5, Indian Territory (Chickasaw Nation) shows Elias M. Sanders, age 56, a farmer, born May 1844 in Georgia; living with his daughter, Rose Etta Sanders Blansett, age 24, born
August 1875 in Missouri; and her husband, Carol Blansett, age 23, born January 1877 in Arkansas. Also living in the household were Rose Etta's and Cary's son: Carol Joseph Blansett, age 7 months, born October 1899 in Indian Territory; and Rose Etta's daughters by a previous marriage: Nellie C. Ross, age 8, born August 1891 in Indian Territory; and Clara M. Ross, age 6, born October 1893 in Indian Territory.

Elias died June 2, 1921 in Bryan County, Oklahoma and was buried in Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County).
