George T. "Tom" Jones, 87, a resident of Davenport, formerly a longtime resident of Bettendorf, passed away Friday, January 25, 2013 at Senior Star Davenport. Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial for Tom will be 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes, 1506 Brown Street, Bettendorf. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main Street, Davenport. The family invites all to join them at 6:30 p.m. for a prayer service to end the visitation. There will be an additional visitation on Tuesday from 9:00 until 10:00 at the church prior to the beginning of mass.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer Association.
George Thomas Jones was born July 26, 1925 in Chrisney, Indiana a son of Ira E. and Rettie (Cockriel) Jones. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a lifetime member of the Bettendorf V.F.W. # 9128. Tom was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Janssen on October 5, 1946 at St. Alphonsus Catholic in Davenport. Margaret preceded him in death May 2, 2011 after sharing nearly 65 years together.
Tom had worked as a truck driver for Standard Oil for many years retiring in 1981.
Those left to honor his memory are his children and their spouses; daughters and son-in-law, Patricia Mouchrani, LaGrange, KY and Lynne (Gary) Ganoe, Davenport; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy (Vicki) Jones, Davenport, Michael Jones, Muscatine, Kevin (Sharon) Jones, Davenport, Brian Jones, Bettendorf; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-laws, Jean Schaeffer, Davenport, and Marge Janssen, Davenport.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lana Schave, Ann Bordewich and Ona Hagen; and brothers, Vernie, Ivan, and Leroy. May they rest in peace.
