Reuben Chadwick was born in Connecticut on 27 Feb 1813. He emigrated to California at the time of gold fever in 1849, where he remained for two years. He removed to Rockford and worked as a carpenter with the exception of seven years when he resided on a farm east of the city. He was known as a man of high character. At his death he left a wife, three daughters, and a son. He was eighty-one at his death on 16 Oct 1893. He died in Rockford Illinois.
