"Page Pioneer" Nora "Linda" Bentley Petersen, Page High School Class of 1961, helped to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona, along with her parents and two sisters.

She was born on February 11, 1943 in Macon, Georgia, to "Page Pioneers" Nahum Matthew "Ben" Bentley (1917-2000) and Mildred Marie (Hayes) Bentley (1919-2005). She grew up in Georgia until she was 13, moving to upstate NY in 1956.

Before moving to Page, AZ, in 1958 with her parents, they lived in upstate NY. She graduated from Elkhorn High School, Elkhorn, Nebraska in 1961.

Linda married Gary Petersen in September of 1961 at the Methodist Church in Beatrice, Nebraska, and to this union two daughters were born: Angela and Sherie. Linda and Gary raised their family in Nebraska.

Linda had worked at Gameco and K-Mart. She enjoyed sea shells, making crafts, sewing, reading and family time. Linda cherished family holidays and the special, personal relationships she nurtured with her children, grandchildren and special friend Jane Gerhardt.

Linda passed away on Thursday February 7, 2008 at Lakeside Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 64 years, 11 months and 27 days.

She was predeceased by her parents and her younger sister, Rhonda "Ronni" Andrews Lee, Page Accommodation Elementary School, Class of 1972, of Rapid City, South Dakota, who passed away in 2001.

Linda was survived by her ex-husband; two daughters, Angela M. Egbarts and Sherie H. Sullivan, both of Omaha; 3 grandchildren (2 girls and 1 boy), and 2 great-grandchildren; and her older sister, "Page Pioneer" Sandra "Sandi" Thurston (James) Ralston, Page High School Class of 1959, of Mesa, AZ.

Linda's older sister, Sandi, shared these memories of Linda:

While a student at Page High School, Linda spent a lot of time at the Cove amphitheater in the rocks and the PHS parties held there. Linda was divorced from her husband shortly after their 25th anniversary. Sandi said that Linda started smoking at age 14 and was a heavy smoker until two years before she died. She died of COPD. She was in the hospital for two weeks. Linda and Sandi loved to sing silly songs, so Sandi "sang Linda to the steps" and had to let her go. She sang "Zip-a-dee-doo-dah", etc. and played "This little piggy" with her toes because Linda couldn't do anything about it; she brought in crazy hats, and bought her an antique bluebird pin and put it on her pillow because Linda loved bluebirds.
