Falling tree kills logger
A 43-year-old Coos Bay logger was killed Tuesday when he was struck by a falling tree on the Weyerhaeuser Co. tree farm about 12 miles northwest of Roseburg.
Alan Stout died about 11:30 a.m., according to a company spokesman on the Dellwood side of the facility.
The incident was handled by the Douglas County medical examiner since it was an accidental death.
Arrangements are pending at Mills-Bryan-Sherwood Funeral Homes in Coos Bay.
Services for Alan M. Stout, 43, Coos Bay, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Mills-Bryan-Sherwood Chapel with the Rev. Richard Cochran of the North Bend Presbyterian Church officiating. Private committal will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
Mr. Stout was born March 17, 1936, in Berkeley, Calif., and died Feb. 19 near Roseburg.
He was a member of the Coos Bay Elks Lodge, Coos Bay Power Squadron and had lived in Coos Bay for the past nine years.
Survivors include his sons, Mark of Sparks, Nev., Jeff and John, both of Coos Bay; daughters, Carol Briggs of Sparks, Nev., Lori Stout of Coos Bay; father, Max Stout of North Bend; mother Margaret Stout of Bend; sister Patricia Tacy of Bend; and his grandmother, Inez Stout of Fresno, Calif.
