Jeanette P. Hann, 90, of Somonauk, IL passed away Sunday, January 30, 2005 in Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich. She was born November 22, 1914 in Somonauk, the daughter of Harry and Lillian (Johnson) Dannewitz.
She married Robert J. Hann on February 8. 1941 in Somonauk. Jeanette kept busy raising seven children and was an active volunteer in her community.
While she was active in many of her children's activities, her volunteer involvement went well beyond her children's involvement. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk where she was active with the Altar and Rosary Society and served as president.
She was active with the Aurora Deanery Council of Catholic Women and DeKalb Deanery Council of Catholic Women and served as president of both. In 1947 she organized and was the first president of the Somonauk Junior Women's Club. She was a Girl Scout volunteer with the Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council for over 50 years. During that time she volunteered in many capacities including troop leader of Brownie, Junior and Cadette Girl Scout troops and served on various council committees. In 1965 Jeanette received the Girl Scout Thanks Badge, which is the highest award given to adult volunteers.
She volunteered her time with the Somonauk Summer Baseball and Softball teams, organized youth swim lessons, and served on the Somonauk Community Chest for many years, chaired the Somonauk Bicentennial event, and served on the Somonauk Community Improvement Development Committee. She was also active with the DeKalb County Republican Women. After all this she still had time to enjoy sewing and fishing.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL with Fr. Donald DeSalvo officiating. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery rural Somonauk. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 1, 2005 at the Turner Funeral Home in Somonauk, IL, (815) 498-2363, with a Rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Girl Scouts-Sybaquay Council or Somonauk Summer Recreation or the charity of one's choice.
She is survived by four daughters, Janice Hann of Chicago, IL, Roberta Mickelson and Pat Hann, both of Somonauk, Kay (Kevin) Flavin of DeKalb, IL; two sons, Donald (Linda) and Joe (Carmen) Hann, both of Somonauk; her grandchildren, Jodi (Tom) Wilson, Stephanie (Jason) Baumbach, Karen Mickelson, Megan Mickelson, Lena Hann, Rachel Hann, Sean Flavin, Sara Flavin and Sara Good; great grandchildren, Connor and Evan Wilson, Dylan and Jayden Baumbach; four sisters, Doris Carey, Vera Knudson, Aileen "Whitey" Stahl and Joyce Smiley; and one brother, Armand (Joan) Dannewitz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert J. Hann; one son, Captain David Hann, USAF; one sister, Evelyn Miller; brothers-in-law, Wheeler Carey, Bernard Knudson, William Stahl and Jack Smiley.
