Edward Hanlon,founder of shoe chains
Edward E. Hanlon, 77, of 657 West Roxbury pkwy, West Roxbury, founder of the Hanlon Shoe Stores, died yesterday at Union Hospital in Framingham.
Mr. Hanlon was in the shoe business in the Boston area for the past 50 years. He also was founder of the Colt Shoe chain.
He was a graduate of Boston University Law School, class of 1917.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was a lieutenant in the Navy during World War I.
Mr. Hanlon leaves his wife, Mary (Becherer) three daughters, Mrs. Mary Shannon of Norwood, Mrs. Alice McCabe and Mrs. Joan Walsh, both of West Roxbury; four sons, Edward of Hingham, Thomas of North Abington, George of Cohasset, and John of Framingham.
Also three sisters, Sister Marion Stanislaus, Sisters of Halifax, Sister Ursula Hanlon. O.S.U., and Mrs. Mary Walsh of Dorchester; and 40 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Name Church, West Roxbury. Internment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
