My brother, William Raphael Hawkins, born at Walworth, Wisconsin, 5 Mar 1865, and died near Traverse City, Michigan, 2 Mar 1949, and was buried at Ogdensburg on his birthday, 5 Mar 1949. He was 84 years of age at the time of his death.

William married Hattie Ingraham on 2 Oct 1888 in Grand Traverse Co, MI, and they were the parents of:

Frank J/1898 m. Violet Ostrander


After Hattie died, he married Naomi (Younce) Wikle on 10 Oct 1903 in Grand Traverse Co, MI. They adopted a baby boy, Paul.

"My brother, William adopted a baby boy. The baby's mother was sister of my brother's wife. The mother was using an oil stove which exploded and killed her, hence the adoption. The baby was named Paul Hawkins and lives in Traverse City."

William R. Hawkins, 83 passed away at his son's residence in Williamsburg, Wednesday, after a lingering illness. He was born in southern Wisconsin March 5, 1865, and moved to Michigan when two years of age. He has been a resident of this area for the largest part of his life. Farming was his occupation until a few years ago when he was forced to retire because of ill health. For many years he had been organist at the Archie Methodist church.

He is survived by three sons, Paul of Williamsburg; Frank of the Peninsula; Luther (Wikle) of Grand Rapids; three daughters, Fredith (Wikle) or Mrs. Archie Helferich of Williambsburg; Mrs. Hazel (Wikle) Harris, Mrs. Leona Annis of Petoskey; one sister Mrs. Lucy McDuffie of Corning, California; 15 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. One daughter preceded him in death - and Mrs. Hawkins died in 1946.

William is buried in the Ogdensburg Cemetery with last wife Mary E. in the Third Addition (Center Section) Lot 66.
