Tony was born August 1, 1949, in Holmes County, Pickens, Mississippi, to Lula Mae Tillman-Gaston. He was the fifth child of ten children. He was called home on October 28, 2010, while working at USF Holland Trucking Company in Southaven, Mississippi.
Tony attended the "Little Red Schoolhouse" Richland Vocational High School, Ambrose, Saints Industrial High School and completed his early education in the Job Corps. He was a truck driver by vocation for many years.
In 1974, Tony married Mary Jean Hawkins. His son, Demetrius; his mother, Lula Mae; his brother, Willie James; his aunts, Ruby, LueValuia, and Elnora, all preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memory: Terence (Trena), whom he raised as his son and their children, Be-Be, Tabitha and Akil; his brother, Jimmy (Sandra) of Lexington, MS; his playbrothers, Bill, Jessie, Frank and Arthur; his sisters, Alice of Chicago, IL, Fannie (Roosevelt), Gelean of Greenwood, MS, Violet, Betty Jean, Dorothy and Ruby, all of Lexington, MS, and the John, Hawkins and Williams families, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-worker and very dear friends.
