Thelma M. Johnson, of East Berlin, died January 21, 2013. She was the wife of the late Kenneth A. Johnson for 63 years.
Born February 26, 1919, in Johnstown, she was the daughter of the late William and Helen Berger.
She was a former employee of Glosser Brothers in Johnstown, a member of the Lake Meade Property Owners Assoc. of East Berlin, and the Lake Meade Homemakers.
Thelma enjoyed reading, gardening, and flower arranging, and was a former member of the Ridge View Garden Club of Harrisburg. She was also a member of Lake View Christian Fellowship and Mid-week Bible Study group.
Thelma, being part of "America's Greatest Generation," during WWII traveled alone from Johnstown to Cleveland, Ohio, to work in an airplane factory to support the war effort. She was one of the original "Rosie the Riveters."
She will be lovingly missed by her three sons, Kenneth W. of Aspers, David Allen and wife, LuAnn of Jackson, NJ, and Richard D. of Harrisburg; and daughter, Linda D. and husband, Carl McCrearey of East Berlin, with whom she resided for the past four years; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held, January 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Lake View Christian Fellowship at the Lake Meade Community Center, East Berlin, with Pastor Brian Markle officiating. Private interment service will be held at the convenience of the family at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
