His parents were John Provan II and Marion Miller. He emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts sometime between 1851 to 1869. John married Christine McDonald (Daughter of Hugh McDonald and Mary Gillis of Nova Scotia, Canada) on November 1, 1869 in Boston. The officiant was Rev. Rollin Heber Neale of the First Baptist Church on Somerset Street. John was a baker. Records say the Provans lived at 124 Leverett and 13 La Grange Place in Boston. John died at 13 La Grange Place on December 27, 1872. The cause of death was "Disease of Brain".
Note:
1) John Provan was probably buried at the Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago, Illinois with his mother and sister. His Boston death record says he was buried in Chicago.
2) There is a Christine Provan that died on January 6, 1893 in Worcester, Massachusetts. She was also buried there. Family links: Parents: John Provan (1802 - 1837) Marion Miller Anderson (1804 - 1893)
