"Was a good citizen and farmer of North Middlesex Township where he was born. He was ordained deacon in the old church (First Presbyterian, Carlisle) on 4 Jan 1829 and served as such in the new Second Church. In 1855 he with his wife and son James, who had joined the church in 1853, were dismissed to Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church, Lancaster Co., PA."
He was listed in his younger years as a farmer, which he did until he sold the family farm in 1855. The 1860 census listed him as a carpenter in Lancaster Co., PA. Sometime shortly after 1860 he and his wife moved to live with his son Van Buren in Camden Co., NJ where he remained until his death.
Robert passed away in his son's home in Kirkwood, Camden, NJ. He died from heart failure after a bout with whooping cough.
