Henderson Dies
Les Henderson, Marion, former Council Grove resident, died unexpectenly during the night Tuesday.

He had presided as Master of the Centre Masonic Lodge at a banquet. Six hours later he became ill and died.

Mr. Henderson had worked more than four decades as a maintenance worker and supervisor, for the Kansas Department of Transportation. He was a supervisor for KDOT when he resided here.

Born November 12, 1906, in College Springs, Ia, he was the son of LeRoy Henderson and Ida Mae Ransom Henderson. The family moved to Kansas a few years later and Les was graduated from Concordia High school in 1925. Four years later, the state highway department hired him to maintain Highway 9 from Beloit to Concordia.

He was married to Mila V. Waggle May 29, 1929. She survives.

Surviving also are a daughter, Elaine Zinn, Kaneohe, Hawaii, two sisters, Maxine Hayden, Valley Center, and Gertrude Hogue Concordia; and one grandchild.

Services will be Friday morning at 10:00 o'clock at the Thompson-Harp Funeral Home in Marion. Burial will be at the Scottsville Cemetery at 3:00 o'clock.

Mr. Henderson served four terms as city commissioner of Marion in the early 1970's, and he was a volunteer in most community enterprises. He had been quite active in Masonic bodies and had held the high offices, including.

Memorials have been established in his honor for the Shriner's Burn Center and the Marion Senior Center. He promoted construction of the later in 1981.

Lester L. Henderson, 76, Marion, died Wednesday, Oct. 12 At St. Luke's Hopstial in Marion following an apparent heart attack.

He was born Nov. 12, 1906, in College Springs Iowa. he attended Concordia schoools. Later he moved to Council Grove and in 1968 went to Marion. He retired in 1971, as district superintendent for the Kansas department of Transportation in Marion.

Mr. Henderson was a former Marion City Commissioner, master of the Centre Masonic Lodge, and past master of the James town Masonic Lodge. He also belonged to the York Rite Bodies Council No.7, Emporia; the Royal Arch Masons Commandery, Council Grove; the Isis Shrine of Salina, the Marion Senior Center and the Marion Country club.

He was married to Mila V. Waggle May 29, 1929. She survives.
