Marilda was the oldest of three known children born in Clarksville, PA to John and Elizabeth Ann "Eliza" Mattox Johnson.
Taken from the "Youngstown Telegram," Youngstown, Mahoning County, Ohio, written on Saturday, November 22, 1919. "Mrs. Marilda Buchanan died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Smith, 560 High, at 3:15 p.m. Friday. Altho she had been ailing some time of infirmities of advanced age, her condition was regarded serious less than a day before she died. Mrs. Buchanan, who was the widow of James Buchanan, came to Youngstown from Harrisville, Pa., six weeks ago. She was a daughter of John and Eliza Mattox Johnson and was born June 22, 1842, in Clarksville, Pa. She was a member of the Latter Day Saints church. Surviving besides her daughter are three sons, Harry and John Buchanan, Butler, Pa., and George Buchanan, Grove City, Pa.; also 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Lydia Young, Sharpsville, Pa. The funeral will be at 8:30 a.m. Monday from the Smith residence. The body will then be taken to the cemetery in Mercer, Pa., where services will be held at the grave at 11 a.m."
