Joseph Hutchinson committed suicide at his home northwest of this city last Sunday night, by cutting his throat with a pocket knife. Deceased had been boarding with Mr. and Mrs. John Phoenix, his tenants, who were away from home Sunday. Upon their return, about nine o'clock in the evening, they found the chores all done, and supposed that Mr. Hutchinson had retired. Early the next morning Mr. Phoenix went out into the yard, and found Mr. Hutchinson dead, with the knife firmly clasped in his hand.
Deceased had been in poor health for some time, having submitted to two operations, and to that, together with property worries, is attributed his rash act.
Joseph Hutchinson was born in Swaledale, Yorkshire, England, Dec. 6th, 1843, and came to this country July 4th, 1848. He has lived in this vicinity for many years, and was a man who had no enemies. Burial was made in the Evergreen cemetery in this city Tuesday afternoon, services being held at the M.E. church, Rev. Callahan officiating.
He is survived by two brothers and four sisters.
