Donna L. Senff Mata, 80, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2013 at the home of her older daughter, Jody and Dwight Emerson, in Santa Clarita, CA. Donna lived in San Jacinto, CA since 1986.
Donna was born January 8, 1932 in Richland County, ND to Leon and Annetta (Martison) Senff. Most of her life Donna had never lived in one place longer than three years.
Donna graduated from Dandy Union High School in Sandy, OR in 1949. She met and married her first husband USAF Sgt. Charles O. Hanson from Houston, MN in Sandy, OR in 1950. This marriage produced two daughters Jodine and Dera. Donna and Charles divorced in 1959 in OR.
In 1960, Donna married 2nd husband USAF Sgt. John F. Esquibel, in Stevenson, WA. They divorced in 1976. Donna moved to Torrance, California where she met her last and favorite husband USAF Sgt. Salvador Mata (retired) in 1977. They were married in January 1985 but were together for 17 years. Salvador passed away on August 5, 1994.
In 1985 Donna discovered genealogy. She developed a passion for "collecting" relatives of all types. She had over 40,000 names in the Genealogical Program PAF all connected in one way or the other. Donna was a member of the Hemet- San Jacinto Genealogical Society beginning in 1986. She volunteered at the Hemet Public Library and the LDS Family History Center in Hemet for almost 20 years.
Her passion with genealogy brought her to Norway in 1988 where she met 115 of her 154 Norwegian cousins. She had self-published over 400 books on her family history and shared them with relatives all over the US and Norway. These books were donated to the LDS Family History Center/Mormon Church in Salt Lake City, UT.
Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Jodine Lee (Hanson) Emerson and her husband, Dwight Emerson, from Santa Clarita, CA and Dera Annette Hanson and her husband, Paul Landry, from Rochester, MN. Four grandchildren; Eric (Sesly) Emerson, Palmdale, CA; Tracie Emerson, Newhall, CA; Keela (Donald) Gracey, Sterling Heights, MI; Cale ( Michelle) Johnson, Pooler, GA; and great granddaughter, Sierra Lynn Johnson, Lewiston, MN. Donna is survived by one sister, Delores (Boots) Fritz and her husband, Geary who live in Gresham, OR.
Donna requested no funeral service. She just wanted people to remember her with good thoughts and to celebrate her life instead of mourn it. She lived a good life and hoped that she had done some good in the world. Donna will be cremated and laid to rest alongside her husband, Salvador Mata, at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, CA. May she rest in Peace.
