Originating from a wealthy family of Lyon, Andrée Putnam initially studied music and graduated in piano and composition at the National Conservatory of Paris. She began working as a journalist for the design magazine Les Cahiers de L'Oeil and Elle. Considered a designer of interiors among the most famous in the world, she has realized many celebrated creations, including the inside of the Concorde, the VIP lounges at the Stade de France, the famous piano "Voie lactée", the desk of Jack Lang, the interiors of the Morgan Hotel in New York City, the Sheraton Roissy-Charles de Gaulle, the Pershing Hall Hotel in Paris, the first shops of Yves Saint Laurent and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux. According to art critics, she was interested to exalt the light and space and create objects and environments simple, sober, essential and timeless.
