An 1874 city directory shows he is a grocer for "Allen, Taylor & Smith." In 1889, his occupation is "produce." Living in Mill, DeKalb County, GA, in 1900 where he is a farmer. (Perhaps a truck farmer, selling what he grows?) Son William and Jane McGinness, listed as mother are living with him. He is listed as married, but his wife and other children are not listed.
His children include Dora, Calvin, Caleb, Maud, Hugh A, William Wade, Scott Wiley, Benjamin, and Louise C.
Atlanta, yesterday, today and tomorrow, By John R. Hornady has this comment: 1891, April 3: E. C. Allen, well known grocer, attacked by wolf within sight of street lights of Atlanta.
