Moses Oliver McCaslan, was the youngest child of Robert and Margaret Link McCaslan. Born on the 7th of December 1809, Moses grew up in a family that was well connected to the Presbyterian faith. His ancestors had come to the area in the mid 1760's as Scot-Irish Reformers, seeking religious freedom.

Moses was married into another well known family in the area when he married Susannah Clark Foster, youngest child of Robert and Elizabeth Clark Foster. Mose and Susannah would have seven children:
Ann Elizabeth (1831-1922)
Frances (1833-1858)
Margaret (1834-1835)
Robert Foster (1836-1907)
Mary Jane (1838-1863)
Aggie Susan (1840-1861)
Martha Clark (1842-1920)

It's been said, that Moses was known throughout the community as, "M. O. McCaslan, Foreman of the Jury" because he sat on most of the trials in the district. He also was a member and longtime Ruling Elder of Hopewell Presbyterian Church.

Moses Oliver McCaslan departed this life well loved and respected on February 5th 1890. He was laid to rest in the McCaslan~Foster Family cemetery.
