Bob was born the son of Lester Oscar Sr. and Velora (Burton) Gibbons on December 1, 1931 in Madrid, Iowa. He was a 1950 graduate of Madrid High School. Bob was sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict until he was honorably discharged. On November 22, 1952, Bob was united in marriage to Audrey Jean Todd in California, and they made their home in Madrid. For more than 30 years, Bob was employed as a Postal Clerk with the U.S. Postal Services until his retirement. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Madrid V.F.W. Post 5060; and had volunteered countless hours for Mt. Hope Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time gardening and reading. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his two daughters, Vickey Gibbons of Madrid and Paula (Jim) Battani of Woodward; three brothers, Lester Jr. (Eldina) Gibbons of Madrid, Tom (Angie) Gibbons of Arkansas and Floyd "Pinkie" (Ramona) Gibbons also of Madrid; sister, Carol (Jimmy) Hurst of Joplin, MO; and two granddaughters, Haley (Boston) Freilinger of Ankeny and Lacey Battani of Woodward. Bob was preceded into eternal life by his parents; two sisters, Frances Thompson and Phyllis Erickson; and his beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Audrey Gibbons on December 6, 2011.
