Samuel Claibourne Mars
Jun. 20, 1905 - Sept. 1, 2005

Sam was born in Wilbur, Washington, where his father homesteaded a wheat farm, and moved to Snohomish in his early school years. He and his future wife, Ione Love, met at Snohomish High School, and were married in 1929.
Ione, who passed away in 2002, after 73 years of marriage and his older sister, Annice Barnhart, preceded Sam in death.
He leaves a daughter, Betty (Lynwood) Smith; three grandchildren, Becky (Brian) Wigen, Peggy Fowle, Paul (Martha) Smith; and four great-grand-daughters.
His greatest joy was making things out of wood - furniture, houses, and turning wooden bowls. He also worked with sterling silver and semi-precious stones, making jewelry for family members. He also enjoyed salmon fishing and target shooting.
To honor his life, a gathering of family and friends will be held from 2 p.m to 4 p.m. on September 18, 2005, in the house that he built at Tulare Beach. Please call (425) 742-5724 for directions.
