Virgil D. Babbs, 88, New Straitsville, died Saturday, Feb. 1 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
Born Nov. 26, 1908, Salem Hollow, son of the late Dennis and Rose Lang Babbs, he was married for 62 years to Velma Smith Babbs, who survives.
A lifelong farmer, he was also employed by Clay-Craft for 29 years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Rosie) Spicer of Columbus; two sisters, Audrey Frickey of Cleveland and Mable Williams of Salem Hollow; nine grandchildren, Chuck and Kim Spicer of Canal Winchester, Ted and Bonnie Camp of Fort Myers, Fla., Kevin Camp of Columbus, Paula and Greg Monroe of Columbus, and Diana and Kevin Ackley of Worthington; and three great-grandchildren, Holly, Heather and Hannah Spicer.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Camp; two sisters, Ethel Babbs and Mary Bush; three brothers, Clifford, Russel and Carl Babbs; and a grandson, Tim Spicer.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Zion Church, New Straitsville, with the Rev. Lee Tabor officiating.
Burial will be in Salem Cemetery.
Friends may call after 7 p.m. today and all day Tuesday at the Humphrey Funeral Home in Shawnee.
