Obituary published in Contra Costa TImes; January 29, 2012

William Eugene "Gene" Arrington Oct. 4, 1932 - Jan. 22, 2012 Resident of Martinez Gene passed away peacefully Sunday evening at Kaiser Walnut Creek, surrounded by the love of a family he cherished. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years Lowella (Lou), daughters Joni D'Antonio (son-in-law Tony D'Antonio), Jeanne Clark (Dusty Clark), Patricia Meden (Scott Meden) and three wonderful grandchildren Gina D'Antonio, Vincent D'Antonio and Alec Meden. He was an incredible father, devoted family man and adoring husband. He was loved by all who knew him and admired for his great sense of humor and his friendly demeanor. Gene was born and raised in Richmond California where he graduated from Richmond Union High School and attended Contra Costa College before joining the Air Force. He was an accomplished track and field athlete for all three institutions specializing in the hurdles and was chosen to participate in the 1956 Olympic time trials. His Air Force career (1952 - 1956) started at the prestigious Army Language School in Monterey California where he specialized in the Russian language. He was stationed in Texas, Alaska and California. As a young family man in Redding California he was actively involved in 20-30 Club and the Elks. Gene had a long career in the Insurance industry as a claims manager. He had a love of stamp collecting and was a mean crossword puzzler. Nothing made him happier than having the whole family together for a crazy evening of good food and lots of laughter! For the last 44 years Gene and Lou have resided in Martinez. Remembrances may be made in his name to the MIND Institute at UC Davis, Autism Research. Please contact: 916-734-9400.
