Civil Engineer, Inventor, Draughtsman
Born in Glatz, Germany, he came to America in 1847. He opened his office then to classes in draughting. Later he entered the employee of the Mosely Bridge and Roof Co., which was succeeded by the New England Iron Co. He was consulting engineer for McKay of East Boston and later for Lawrence of Portland, working on the construction of the government monitors. During the superintendency of Chas. VanderWoerd's at the Waltham Watch Co., he was chief draughtsman and designer for the company. He designed Mr. VanderWoerd's house now used by the Free Reading Room. After leaving the watch company he was engaged a number of years in business in Boston before retiring. He leaves four sons, Julius, Waldo, Henry and Paul, and one daughter, Louise.
