Obituary for Lewis Vincent Wood, age 91 of Stone Mountain, GA passed away January 14, 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Wood Clanton and husband Lee, granddaughter Sarah Clanton Schaffer and husband, John, grandson, Zach Clanton; son, Vince Wood, Jr. and wife Angie, grandsons, Vince Wood III, Corey Wood and Matthew Wood; stepson, Michael Vaughan and wife Gladys, grandsons, Jeffrey Vaughan and Drew Vaughan, granddaughter, Ashley Vaughan, brother, Bill Wood and wife Era..

Mr. Wood was born in Spartanburg County, SC on December 14, 1921, grew up in Greer, SC and graduated from Greer High School in 1939. In 1943 he married Sarah Lou Seay from Greer, SC. On July 24, 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and served during WWII as a Radar Navigator on a C-47. During the Korean Conflict he served as a Radar Officer stationed at Fort Sheridan, IL. After graduating from Furman University in 1948, Lewis worked for Prudential Mortgage and Loan, living in Greenville, SC, Charlotte, NC, and Atlanta, GA, retiring in 1985. After Sarah Lou's death in 1976, Lewis married Bertha Jones Vaughan from Gaffney, SC in 1977. After retiring, he and Bertha traveled extensively across the United States in his Airstream trailer. He was an avid gardener, fisherman, and always enjoyed church activities and his grandchildren.


A Funeral Service Celebrating the Life of Lewis Vincent Wood will be held Friday, January 18 at 10:30am at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Tommy Lankford officiating. Interment will be held at 3pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6pm until 8pm at the funeral home.
