At age 4, abt 1834/5, Orlando and the Asaph Ellis family moved to Allegany Co, NY from Tioga County, PA. They lived there about a year, then sometime in 1835, they moved by raft down the Allegany River to Sharpsburg, PA, a few miles north of Pittsburgh. A few months later, they settled in Bell Twp, Clearfield Co, PA (Nov 5, 1835)
Orlando enlisted in the Civil War 1861; Co A, 61st Reg PA Vol.
He was wounded 3 times and was in the battles of Fair Oaks, Chantilly, Antietam, Williamsport, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and the Wilderness. He lost his right arm from a gun shot wound.
Orlando was town constable for 14 years and deputy sheriff for 6 years in Indiana Co, PA.
For one term he was assistant sergeant-at-arms of the house of representatives at Harrisburg, the state capital.
