R. T. Barry Dies Tuesday; Rites Today
R. T. Barry, 58, died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2:40 p. m. at a Rochester hospital. Death for the Minneapolis & St. Louis railroad telegrapher was due to coronary thrombosis.
He suffered a heart attack two weeks ago at his Winter’s Point home and was taken to the Waseca Memorial hospital on Friday, Sept. 8. A week later, Friday, Sept. 15 his condition was such that it was thought best to move him to Rochester.
Raymond Thomas Barry was born October 20, 1893, at Gaylord, Minn., a son of Mr. and Mrs Thomas William Barry. He attended Gaylord high school and graduated from Watertown high school.
He spent his active lifetime as a railroad telegrapher, working at Rembrandt, Iowa, before coming to Waseca in November, 1921. He has worked nights at the M&St. L depot here ever since.
R. T. Barry took an interest in civic affairs of the community. He was especially interested in the work of the Waseca County Historical Society and served as its president for two terms. He was an active member of the Calvary Episcopal church of this city.
His marriage to Viola Timm of Arlington took place in Minneapolis September 6, 1919. They were the parents of three sons, Robert Barry, Waseca, D. Hartley Barry, Rochester, and Raymond Barry, Waseca. Mrs. Barry died Jan. 4 of this year.
Also surviving are a brother, Frank H. Barry, Minneapolis; and two sisters, Mrs. John Farrell, Springfield, Ill.; and Mrs. Arthur M. Rolines, Minneapolis.
He was a member of Tuscah Lodge No. 77, A. F. & A. M. The Lodge members will meet at the Temple at 1:30 p. m. Today and will attend the funeral in a body.
Funeral services will be held from Pfaff’s Funeral home at 2:30 p. m. today. Rev. Marvin Nordmeier of the Waseca Calvary Episcopal church and Rev. David Haupt of the Owatonna Episcopal church will conduct the services.
Burial will be in Woodville cemetery. Pall bearers will be Carl Strand, Edgar F. Johnson, Paul Stucky, John McMartin, Arthur Johnson and Art Bribane.
