Funeral Set
For Tuesday
Chief Executive Was
First to Die While
Serving in Office
(Editorial)
Mayor James W Coit
Happy and jovial Mayor Jim Coit
will be laid to rest this afternoon
with appropriate funeral services, as
Bradford suspends activities in respectful
memory of the deceased.
While Mayor Coit never laid
claim to superman qualities, he was
highly successful in his ambition
to be of the greatest usefulness
wherever he found himself.
His career was varied enough to
give him contact with people in all
walks of life. The numerous types of
work he attempted reflected an
eagerness to be active, and, if possible,
to find the place where he
could be of the maximum service to
all.
Mayor Coit was pre-eminently
social He sought those places where
he could be constantly in contact
with his fellow human creatures. As
Mayor of Bradford he found that office
entirely to his liking and adapted
his own natural qualities to the
performance of the duties of that
office with credit to himself and a
considerable measure of distinction.
It is with a genuine sense of loss
and with sincere regret that Mayor
Coit has token leave of Bradford.
The city's pause to respect the
memory of Jim Coit is more than a
gesture. It is a sincere tribute to the
passing of this friendly and kindly
public official.
