Bettie M. Backus, 96, died Saturday, July 19, 1997, in
Borger, Texas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom R. Lee, pastor of Hooker First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery by Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home.

Mrs. Backus was born near Elk City in Oklahoma Territory. She moved to Texas County from Elk City in 1911. She was a homemaker and an active member of the Guymon First Baptist Church. She also was a member of the WMU and a longtime Sunday school teacher.

She married Charley Backus in 1924 at Ada. He died in 1960.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Catherine Box of Pampa, Texas; two sons, Charley Dudley Backus and Harroll Lin Backus, both of Borger; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a greatgreat-grandson.

The family suggests memorials be to the Guymon First Baptist Church building fund. Memorials will be accepted at the church office or Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Okla. 73942.
