CHICOPEE - Frank J. Jazab, 98, passed away on January 13, 2013 at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke. Frank was born in Chicopee on March 20, 1914 and was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Biestek) Jazab. He was a lifelong resident of Chicopee and was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Chicopee. Frank graduated from Chicopee Vocational School, having a proficiency in carpentry. In addition to working on the family farm and doing carpentry work, Frank worked at Holyoke Wire and Cable Co. in Holyoke before entering the Army and serving his country during WW II. While serving in the Army, Frank received a Purple Heart for wounds received in combat, the Bronze Star Medal, The Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. After returning from the service, Frank worked as a machinist at Westinghouse Electric Corporation in Springfield and later at Digital Equipment Corp. in Westfield, until his retirement. Frank was a member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 on Granby Rd. in Chicopee and until about age 95, he regularly helped the K of C with their spaghetti suppers. He also volunteered his time at Lorraine's Soup Kitchen. Frank was predeceased by his wife of sixty five years, Evelyn A. (Cierpial) Jazab;who died on July 3, 2012; three brothers, Joseph, Stanley and John and five sisters, Tillie Chawalek, Helen Hill, Nellie Page, Cypryana "Honey" Rec and Albina Wozniak. He is survived by his three sons, Frank Jazab and Linda Saltmarsh of West Springfield, Ed Jazab and Trish Duffy of Leeds and John Jazab of East Longmeadow and five grandchildren, Michael Jazab and his mother, Beatrice Jazab of Westfield, Stephanie of Westfield, Sarah of Wilbraham, Joseph of Leeds and Laura of North Carolina. Frank's funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 8:30 am from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee Center, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony St. in Chicopee at 9:30 am. His burial will follow with military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. in Agawam. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to Western Mass. Elder Care, 4 Valley Mill Rd., Holyoke, MA 01040 or The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, 110 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
