Bessie Faulkner Daves, 93, a resident of Fayetteville and a retired teacher, serving 38 years in the Lincoln County School System, died Saturday (July 5, 1997) at Donalson Care Center. Mrs. Daves was the daughter of the late George and Lena Faulkner and a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ. She retired from the school system in 1969 after teaching elementary school at Charity, Howell, and Eighth District. She was a member of the Lincoln County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Daves was preceded in death by her husband, John William Daves, who died in 1968; twin sister, Essie Harrison, and brother, Lawson Faulkner. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, John Wayne Daves and Anne Daves of Chuluota, Florida; sister, Thelma Posey of Fayetteville; and nieces, June Harmening of Fayetteville and Martha Teenor of Huntsville, Alabama. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with Bro. James Lewis Pigg and the Rev. Bob Dunivan officiating. Interment was in Riverview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Charles Bryant, Billy Joe Gowan, Bill Hampton, Charles Harmening, William Knox Moore, and Phillip McCown. Honorary pallbearers were Jack Daves, Teddy Barnes, and Jimmy Broadway.
