Henry L.B. ROACH
The subject of this sketch was born in Birmingham, Alabama, February 16, 1849, and died at Tulsa, July 23, 1919, after an illness of four months of cancer of the liver. He was married July 10, 1894, to Anna Seviers of Henrietta, Texas. He is survived by her and a son (Charles) by a former marriage.
Mr. Roach and wife have been residents of Pawnee for several years, until the past few months when they moved to Tulsa. He was a good man and was highly respected by his neighbors and friends. He had been a member of the Baptist Church for the past 22 years, and the funeral was held here at the Baptist Church, Rev. CALHOON, the pastor, preaching the funeral sermon. Henry (sometimes known as H.L.B.) was the oldest child of John and Mary Roach. He was born in Alabama but his family moved to Texas when he was an infant settling in Henrietta, Clay County.
Henry was a stone and brick contractor, and at one time there were many buildings in Henrietta built by him.
He married Matilda Caroline King about 1873. The 1880 census shows Henry and Matilda and their six-year old daughter, Adelia, living with his parents. Their son, Charles Cleveland Roach, was born in Henrietta on January 20, 1884. Matilda, died February 15, 1886.
Henry married Vastie Alice Dale in Henrietta on May 2, 1889. She died in 1891 and is buried in Hope Cemetery. Also buried in Hope is a child of Henry's who died November 21, 1890.
In July 1894, Henry married Anna Seviers. By 1900 Henry, Anna and Charles were living in a boarding house in Guthrie, Oklahoma, and by 1910, both Henry and Charles were working in the stone building trade.
