JOSEPH ALBERT ARIAIL
Mr. Joseph Albert Ariail, Jr., age 87, of Villa Rica died July 6, 1996. Mr. Ariail was born in Banks County, Ga., on November 14, 1908, son of Joseph Albert Ariail and Orpha Elizabeth Garrison Ariail. He graduated from Maysville High School in 1927, received his BSA from the University of Ga in 1932, attended summer sessions at the University of Ga. in 1934, 1948 and 1949, and attended summer sessions at West Georgia College in 1938. Mr. Ariail served as principal in Banks County 1932-34; did research work at the University of Ga. in July and August, 1934; teacher of Vocational-Agriculture, Fort Gaines, Ga. 1934-36; teacher of Vocational-Agriculture, Roopville, Ga. 1936-45; and was teacher of Vocational-Agriculture, Villa Rica, Ga. from 1945 until his retirement in 1971. He was past president of the Carroll County Retired Teachers Assoc; was a member of Georgia Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association, American Association of Retired Persons, Georgia Association of Educators, National Education Association, and Georgia Retired Vocational-Agriculture Teachers Association. Mr. Ariail had been a member of the First Baptist Church of Villa
Rica for 50 years, was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class, the Brotherhood, and the Senior Adult Choir. He had served as a Baptist deacon for more than 60 years. He was a member of the Lions Club for 40 years, held various offices and received the Melvin Jones Award; past president of the Golden Villagers; member of the council for Villa Rica Nutrition Program; served for years as Cub Master, Boy Scout Leader, Explorer Leader, and Commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America; served 10 years on Villa Rica Recreation Commission; served 8 years on Villa Rica Welfare Committee; and served 40 years on the Villa Rica Housing Authority, and was Chairman for 20 years until his retirement in 1995. During his distinguished career, he received the following honors: Teacher of the Year, Villa Rica High School; Teacher of the Year, Carroll County School System; Outstanding Senior Citizen of Carroll County; and the Lions Club, Melvin Jones Award. He headed many fund raising drives, provided transportation for the Nutrition Program; gave vision and hearing tests in Villa Rica Primary School, and implemented many improvement projects at the Villa Rica City Library. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, woodworking and traveling. Survivors include wife, Mrs. Geneva Ritchie Ariail, sons and daughters in-law, Joseph and Anita Ariail, Marietta; and Ritchie and Wanda Ariail, Villa Rica; grranchildren, Rick and Melissa Ariail, Rydal, Ga.; Mark and Nancy Ariail, Villa Rica; Amanda Ariail, Villa Rica; Andrea Ariail and Allison Ariail, Marietta; Suzan and Ken Payne, Covington; Bubba Bixby, Villa Rica; Great grandchildren, Holly, Bianca, Sam, Blake and Kaeli, sisters and brothers in-law, Mr. and Mrs. D.M. Haines, Ringgold; Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Fleming, Decatur; and Mrs. and Mrs. M.E. Elskes, Augusta; neices and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 8, 1996, at 2:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Dr. J.B. Marlow, Rev. Marshall Ray and Rev. Joe Porter officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.
