FORMER RESIDENT PASSES
FAYETTEVILLE – In the passing of Henry Callender Beard, a member of one of the oldest families in Fayetteville has gone. Henry C. Beard was the third child in the family of Henry L. and Anna M. C. Beard. He was born and educated in this village. In 1879 he went to Aberdeen, South Dakota, where he lived continuously till his death.
He was successful in developing agricultural interests, owning much farm land with flocks and herds of sheep and cattle. At one time a general store was conducted by him, his brother, Frank, and Clarkson Gage, another former member resident of Fayetteville, the firm being, Beard, Gage and Beard.
A few months ago an infection of one foot necessitated the amputation of the leg, from which suffering he never recovered.
The funeral and interment took place in Aberdeen on the thirteenth of August. He was seventy-five years of age.
In 1882 Henry C. Beard was united in marriage to Miss Janet Hickson, daughter of Dr. Charles and Mrs. Hickson of this village. There are no children.
Besides his devoted wife, he is survived by two brothers, Fred C., a well-known resident of this village living in the old home, and Frank, who has always been associated with Henry in business. A sister, Ella, the oldest of the family passed away many years ago.
