RATKIN, Rubin S.Age 95 of Nashville, passed away on April 14, 2010. Preceded in death by wife, Natalie Fisher. Survived by wife, Annette Levy Ratkin; children, Dr. Gary and Marilyn Ratkin, of St. Louis, MO, Merriessa and Richard Anton of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Shirra (Brandon) Hanna, Lane Anton of Austin, Kim (David) Dieffenbacher, Stephani (David) Becker of Wilmette, IL; great-grandchildren, Ben, Maddie, Kate Dieffenbacher, Mira, Zachary Becker of Wilmette; step-children, Ralph and Randi Levy, David and Ellen Levy, Gail and Shawn Seibold; step-grandchildren, Risa, Roni, Ross, Joseph, Marci Levy, Amy Seibold, all of Nashville. Born in the Bronx, he was a dedicated New York Giants baseball and football fan, with a lifelong memory of ninety years of sports events. In World War II, he served the US Navy in the South Pacific. After the War, he returned to Laredo and later, McAllen, TX to join a family textile business, La Dama Elegante, for 40 years. He volunteered in the hospital in McAllen and then volunteered in Nashville at Saint Thomas Hospital in the Gift Shop for 23 years. In Nashville, he and Annette attended services at The Temple, Congregation Ohabai Sholom, every Friday night, except when they were traveling the world. He played poker once a week in the men's game at the Gordon Jewish Community Center. He loved tending his roses, and, later, his African violets. He was a gentle man, who knew no strangers. A Memorial service will be held at The Temple, 5015 Harding Road, April 16, 2010 at one o'clock, conducted by Rabbis Mark Schiftan and Shana Mackler, and Cantor Bernard Gutcheon. Contributions may be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, Saint Thomas Hospital Foundation, Alive Hospice, or the Levy Library Fund at The Temple.
