VIRGINIA MAY GAYLORD, daughter of Raymond Earl and Ada Virginia (Woods) Branstetter, was born January 19, 1924 near Arnett, Oklahoma. She departed this life on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Epworth Villa Retirement Community in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years.

Virginia began her formal education at Mt. Zion School near Gage, OK. The Branstetter family moved to Chester, OK in Major County where she attended Gardenvale School and she graduated from Seiling High School.

She married Chauncey Lee Gaylord in 1942 at Washington D. C. where he worked for the U. S. Department of Interior. They had two children, Chauncey Earl and Suzanne Virginia. Chauncey Lee served in the U. S. Army during World War II and following his honorable discharge, they continued to make their home near Washington D. C. where Virginia worked as a medical secretary for cardiologist, Dr. John Watson. In 1990, they moved back to Chester, OK to help care for her mother. Chauncey Lee preceded her in death July 30, 1995 and she continued to make her home near Chester until 1999 when she moved to Epworth Villa Retirement Community in Oklahoma City.

Virginia enjoyed several hobbies including oil painting, egg decorating including ostrich, emu and goose eggs. She was a member of the Quail Springs United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City.

Survivors include her brother, Lyndie Branstetter of Oklahoma City and his daughter, Rhonda Branstetter, her granddaughter, Susan Hughes and husband Kyle of Grand Island, Nebraska and their sons Brian and Evan Hughes, one sister-in-law, Lavona Gaylord of Seiling, as well as, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her husband, she was preceded by her daughter in 1961, her son in 2010, her parents, a great granddaughter, Lindsay Hughes and two brothers, Fred and Junior Branstetter.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 27, 2012 at the Brill Chapel in Epworth Villa, 14901 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Oklahoma City, OK 73134 with Chaplain Adrian Martin, officiating. Services will be under the direction of the Redinger Funeral Home. She will be buried with her husband and daughter at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
