Notes for Pvt. William H Jones:
Notes from Howard County Times obituary of William H Jones dated 14 Feb 1884:

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church last Sunday afternoon, under the auspices of Memorial Post Grand Army of the Republic. Rev. G. W. Ballon, pastor of the M. E. church, gave an appropriate address, and the Methodist choir furnished suitable music. The pall bearers and special escort were old soldiers, one carried a flag draped and others guns draped; scenes which touched the tenderest emotions, and recalled the sad and anxious days of the war. In addition to the soldiers of this post, we noticed in the escort and procession, Judge Granger and Court Reporter May of Waukon, both veteran soldiers. The church was filled to overflowing. A long procession, led by the soldiers, followed the deceased to the cemetery, where the soldiers fired a parting salute over the grave of Comrade W. H. Jones.
