Florence Meredith Yerkes was born on June 12, 1916, in Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Walter Pearl and Lena May Field Yerkes. After graduating from the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, she married John Patrick Peters on February 20, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They lived in Cedar Rapids before moving to Marshalltown where they raised their family.
Meredith volunteered at St. Mary's School in Marshalltown while her children attended there. After they were grown, she worked at Younkers Department Store in Marshalltown.
Florence Meredith Peters passed away on January 10, 2013, in Des Moines, Iowa. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jane (Frank) Richards of Placentia, California; Susan Meredith (Terry) Hostetter of Leawood, Kansas; and Carol Peters of Windsor Heights, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Patrick Peters; her son, John Terry Peters; her daughter, Patricia Ann Peters; and her sister, Eleanor Grier.
