|Death: ||Jul. 23, 1884|
Ferdinand Riche was born in Lambeth, Surrey, England in 1820. He was christened 14 Apr. 1820. He immigrated from Liverpool to the U.S. about 1854 with his 7 year old son, Oscar Ferdinand. His wife and two children had died earlier in England. Another young daughter stayed in England with relatives until she was a teen (she died, age 19 in Albany, NY.)
Ferdinand settled in Albany, NY were he worked for decades as a book agent. He remarried there and had at least 5 more children. They are listed in the 1880 Census in Albany. For unknown reasons the family moved to Philadelphia after that. Ferdinand died of hemiplegia in Philadelphia in 1884, less than two years later his 20 year old daughter, Alice Maud Riche, died of typhoid fever. She was buried in her father's grave.
Two children married in Philadelphia. Several years later the whole family moved back to New York. They were very close-knit. Most of them are buried near each other in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Herkimer, Herkimer, NY, except Oscar Ferdinand, who is buried with his children and descendants in Albany Rural Cemetery, Menands, NY. Ferdinand and Alice Maud are the only known family members to be buried in Phildelphia.
