Miss Mattie Sheppard, 73 years old, member of a family which has lived in the Bainbridge community since before Missouri was admitted to statehood, died of a heart ailment at 9:30 o'clock Friday night at St. Francis Hospital, where she had been admitted earlier in the day. Miss Sheppard had been ill for about two weeks.
Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent's Church at 8:45 o'clock Monday morning by Rev. T. J. Murphy, C.M., the pastor, and burial will be in the family cemetery near Bainbridge. The body will remain at the Walther Funeral Home until shortly before the services. Members of St. Vincent's Church will meet at the funeral home at 7:30 o'clock Sunday night for recitation of the Rosary.
Miss Sheppard was born June 28, 1868, on the family farm at Bainbridge, the daughter of Wm. and Mary Hagan Sheppard. She grew up in the community and attended the public schools there before coming to Cape Girardeau to attend the old St. Vincent's Convent.
She was a member of St. Vincent's Church and St. Vincent's Altar Society.
She is survived by a sister, Miss Ada P. Sheppard of Bainbridge. Her brother, Tom Sheppard, died several years ago. Mrs. W. O. Bowman, 327 North Ellis street, was a niece of Miss Sheppard.
