Mary Lou Baker, 75, of Oelwein and formerly of Maynard, Iowa died on Sunday morning, January 6, 2013 at her home in Oelwein.

Funeral Service: 1:00 P.M. Friday, January 11, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, Maynard, with Rev. John Kerr officiating. Visitation: 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Maynard and for one hour before the service at the church on Friday. Interment: Long Grove Cemetery, Maynard, Iowa.

Mary Lou Coffin was born on December 10, 1937 at Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of V.J. & Helen Marie (Wolf) Coffin. She received her education from the Strawberry Point and Maynard Schools. Mary Lou was united in marriage to Clifford Paul Baker on June 12, 1955 at the First Christian Church in Oelwein.

Mary Lou was a longtime Maynard resident. She and Cliff owned and operated Baker's Café in Maynard from 1960 to 1977. She then worked at Kmart in Oelwein from 1978 until her retirement in 1995. Mary Lou had lived the past five years in Oelwein.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Maynard and previously a member of the Oelwein Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeerie 9233 where she served as the first Auxiliary President. She had also previously been a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 74 in Maynard. Mary Lou enjoyed jigsaw puzzles in the winters and camping and fishing in the summers. She also enjoyed crocheting, especially for her grandchildren.

Mary Lou is survived by her 3 Sons: Ricky Baker of Maynard, Roger (Julie) Baker of Manchester & Randy Baker of Oelwein; Daughter: Billijo Baker of Oelwein and her 2 cats: Molly and Sabrina and dog: Dakota; 9 Grandchildren: Christopher (Alma) Baker of Pensacola, Florida, Christian (Tarinda) Baker of Hinesville, Georgia, Clifton (Darlene) Baker of Waterloo, Clayton Baker of Baltimore, Maryland, Colton Baker of Maynard, Nicole Hayek of Oelwein, Samie Baker (Cory Phillips) of Oelwein Jacob Baker of Oelwein and Audrey Baker-Blue of Oelwein; 7 Great Grandchildren: Alexandria Baker of Tripoli, Adel Baker of Pensacola, Florida Kendell Baker of Cuba, Alabama, Braedon Baker of Oelwein, Kaylie Skaggs of Ft. Stewart, Georgia, Taylor Skaggs of Ft. Stewart, Georgia and Patrick Skaggs, Jr. of Ft. Stewart, Georgia; Sister: Julie (Larry) Rogers of Cedar Rapids; Brother: Robert Coffin of Cedar Rapids; Sister-In-Law: Glendora "Dee Dee" Coffin of Marion and numerous Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews, Great Great Nieces and Great Great Nephews.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents: V.J. & Helen Coffin, husband: Cliff on March 29, 2002, 3 brothers: Alan Coffin, Dwayne Coffin & Ron Coffin, her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Arnold & Ruby Baker, her brother-in-law: Kenny Baker, grandson: Phillip Hayek and her beloved cat: Maverick.
