Phillip Boyd was born in Montreal, Canada, in 1831.
At the age of 17 he removed to Kishwaukee, Winnebago, IL where he was married to Miss Eliza Ripley.
Four children were born to this union; Albert of Bassett, James of Dixon, Neb., Phillip of Laona, IL., and a daughter Mabel Belle, who died in early childhood.
In 1864 Mr. Boyd enlisted in a regiment of IL volunteer cavalry and served his country until honorably discharged at the close of the war (Civil War).
The remaining years since the war he had lived in Nebraska, Charles City and Deerfield, and for the last few years made his home in Bassett.
He was a great sufferer but bore his burdans manfully until March 31, 1908 when the angel of death called him to join his beloved wife, who preceded him in 1904. He was a kind father and husband and a friend to all.
The funeral was held at the M.E. church of which he had been a member for years and burial was at Deerfield. A noble one has passed from us and we feel our loss, yet he sleepeth in peace.
