Cecil E. Vibbert, 79, of 69 Wescott St., died at 8:09 p.m. Wednesday(May 10, 2000) in the WCA Hospital. An area resident since coming from Elbon, Pa., he was born June 13, 1920 in Shawmut, Pa., the son of Giles E. and Loeuna A. Bundy Vibbert. He was employed by the former Watson Manufacturing Co., where he was employed for 27 years. He retired from the Chautauqua County Highway Department, where he worked for several years.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving during WWII as a surgical technician and was stationed in Central Europe and Rhineland and England. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He served from April 7, 1944 to Dec. 29, 1945.
He was a member of the Lake Erie Beagle Club for more than 40 years and held many offices in the clu. He was a member of the C.B. radio Club for more than 30 years and was known as the "Jack of Diamonds" on channel 22 to all his CB buddies. He was also a member of the Samuel Derby Post 556 American Legion, Frewsburg.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann Taylor of Spring Hill, Fla., and Lena "Lee" Webb of Jamestown; five grandchildren; seven great-grandhildren; and a sister, Ruth Bundy of Brandy Camp, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Marguerite Cantafio Vibbert, whom he married July 5, 1941, and who died March 3, 1992; a brother, Chester Vibbert; and a sister, Lillian Raynor.
