Irene Janie Greer, of Lubbock, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012. She was born Nov. 22, 1917, in Coleman County to Bill and Birdie Banks. Irene married Douglas Amon Greer in 1935. Together they had two children, Ronald Greer and Sherry Minzenmayer. During Irene's life, she was a farmer's wife in the community of Slide. She was also a member of Slide Baptist Church. After her husband's death, Irene was employed by Furr's Family Center (34th St) for several years, where she was treated like family. She was an independent, widowed woman for 49 years. Irene was a loving mother and grandmother. We were blessed to share a long and healthy life with her. We will miss her delicious cooking! Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas, on Jan. 31, 1963; seven siblings; and a daughter, Sherry (2008). She is survived by a son, Ronnie Greer and wife Judy; a grandson, Mark Campbell; two granddaughters, Dallas Greer, and Ronigene Greer-Riddle and husband Travis; and six great-grandchildren. The family of Irene will greet friends at Agape Funeral Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 26, to celebrate her 94 years of life. A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, in Englewood Cemetery, Slaton
