Dr. Reuben W. Croyle, a practicing Massillon physician and surgeon for 26 years until retirement last October, died Wednesday at 12:15 p.m. in the Massillon city hospital, where he had been a patient for 22 hours. He was 69.
Death followed an illness of one year. He resided at 1139 Lincoln way E.
The funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in St. John's United Church of Christ with the pastor, the Rev. Otto R. Gerber, D.D., officiating. Interment will be made in the Rose Hill Memorial park.
The body will be taken to the church on Friday at 11 a.m. where friends may call until the time of the funeral. The Paquelet funeral home is handling the arrangements.
Born in Neffs Mills, Pa., Dr. Croyle attended Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa., and was graduated from Jefferson medical school in Philadelphia. He also studied at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, on a scholarship.
After medical school graduation Dr. Croyle became at a member of the Toledo state hospital staff in 1930. Four years later he joined the staff of the Massillon state hospital. In 1936 he began his private practice in Massillon.
Dr. Croyle was a member of the Neffs Mills Methodist church and the Massillon Academy of Medicine, the Stark County Medical society and the American Medical Association.
A World War I veteran he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Elks, Clinton Lodge No. 47, F. & A. M., Hiram Chapter 18, R.A.M., and Massillon commandery No. 4, Knights Templar.
Dr. Croyle's offices were originally in the McClymonds (now called the Massillon building) but were moved across Erie at N when the Struhldreher building was built on the southeast corner of Erie and Federal.
Surviving Dr. Croyle are his widow, Mrs. Loretta M Croyle; a son, Samuel M. Croyle at home and a brother, Marshall Croyle at Hummelstown, Pa.,
