Meade Building Owner, Dies
ASHLAND -- Mrs. Maye Shilling Meade, 84, of 827 13th St., owner of the Meade Building, 1532 Winchester Ave., died Sunday at 11:30 a.m. in an Ashland hospital after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Lazear Funeral Home by the Rev. E.L. Tullius and the Rev. Jack Bugg. The body will be entombed in the mausoleum at Ashland Cemetery.
She was born November 17, 1881, in Ashland, a daughter of the late Louis and Rossa Ramey [ sic ] Shilling.
The four-story brick Meade building houses the Eagles Store and Ashland News stand on the first floof, with apartments on the upper three floors.
It was built by her husband, the late William Meade, as a hotel and later converted to the business-apartment arrangement.
She was a member of First Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Laura Lambert and Mrs. Lillian Pennington of Ashland; and three brothers, Frank and Pearl Shilling of Ashland and Louis Shilling of Bradenton Beach, Fla.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.
