Son of Elam Waldo and Candace (Allen) Ainsworth.
On 6 Aug 1862 Henry, a clerk, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Northbridge, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He was 24 years, 6 months and 12 days old.
Henry and Samuel A. Ainsworth, brothers, served together in the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry for a while, with Samuel in the 1st Andrew Sharpshooters and Henry in the 15th Massachusetts.
Henry died on 17 Sep 1862 at The Battle of Antietam, killed in action he was 24 years, 7 months and 23 days old.
Samuel, his brother, outlived Henry and died on 26 Oct 1869 at Millbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts, unmarried, of consumption at age 27. The brothers are buried not far apart.
Note: It is possible that this is a cenotaph, as there is
a grave for him at the Antietam battlefield.
