Mildred Ann was the eldest child of Bluford and Mary Louise Polly Howard Boley. Mildred's first marriage was to Asa Amick on February 2, 1854 at Monroe County, Virginia.

During the Civil War; Asa served with the 26th Battalion, Virginia Infantry and died fighting in a battle at Sweet Springs, Monroe County, Virginia in 1865.

On October 11, 1866, Mildred married Alfred Hance O'Dell at Nicholas County, West Virginia. She was the mother of eleven children.
